About — VinylCrate

Managing a collection should be as good as playing it.

VinylCrate is a companion app for vinyl collectors — whether you own fifty records or five thousand.

VinylCrate isn't another database app. It's built for the way records are actually collected, played, and remembered.

01

The problem

Every collector faces the same thing: a collection that outgrows memory. You stand in a shop holding a record you might already own. You forget the pressing you spent a month tracking down. You play the same six albums and the rest sit there.

  • Catalogue everything — barcode scanning and Discogs integration
  • Stay organised — custom crates and smart sorting
  • See the shape of it — value, growth, and what you actually play
  • Connect — the world's largest music database
02

Built for the vinyl experience

The details that matter to collectors are the ones most apps drop first — starting with which pressing you actually own. VinylCrate reads the matrix code the cutting engineer scratched into the run-out groove, and matches it against every version of the release.

  • Album artwork shown large, the way it sits on a shelf
  • Pressing details that matter — label, catalogue number, format, country
  • A warm, analogue-inspired design rather than another dark dashboard
  • Privacy first, because your collection is your business
03

A native iOS app

VinylCrate is written in Swift and SwiftUI, and uses the platform rather than working around it.

  • SwiftData for fast, reliable local storage
  • VisionKit for accurate barcode and text scanning
  • Swift Charts for collection analytics
  • Native interfaces for iPhone, iPad, and CarPlay
04

Privacy first

Every scan runs on your iPhone. No photograph of your records — a sleeve, a run-out groove, your own copy — is ever sent to us or to anyone else. VinylCrate reaches an external service only when you ask it to: to sync your Discogs account, search for a release, or fetch album details and artwork.

Turn on iCloud sync and your library travels to your own private iCloud database — scoped to your Apple Account, between your own devices, shared with no one. We never receive it.

We don't track your listening habits, analyse your collection, or sell your data. Your vinyl collection is yours.

05

The Discogs connection

VinylCrate integrates with Discogs, the world's largest music database.

  • 60+ million releases catalogued
  • Detailed pressing information for collectors
  • Community-driven data that keeps improving
